Hayati Savaşcı

Hayati Savaşcı (* 1915 in Trabzon ; † January 1, 1980 in Ankara ) was a Turkish Lieutenant General of the Army (Türk Kara Kuvetleri) and a politician of the Justice Party AP ( Adalet Partisi ) , who was Chief of the Army Staff between 1969 and 1972 and from 1973 to 1977 Was a member of the Grand National Assembly .

Life

Savaşcı was the son of the officer Şevki Savaşcı , who last participated as a brigadier in the Balkan Wars , World War I and the Turkish Liberation War and was awarded the Independence Medal ( İstiklâl Madalyası ) . He himself attended the renowned Kuleli Kadettenanstalt (Kuleli Askerî Lisesi) and then completed an officer training at the Army School ( Kara Harp Okulu ) , after which he became an artillery officer in 1935 . After completing further training at the Mountain Infantry Command School (Dağ ve Komando Okulu) in Eğirdir in 1940 , he was used in numerous units of the army until 1958. He graduated from the Army Academy ( Kara Harp Akademisi ) from 1958 to 1960 and from the Academy of the High Command (Yüksek Kumanda Akademisi) in 1960, and after the military coup on May 27, 1960, he was Colonel in the General Staff (Kurmay Albay) and Director General of the Istanbul Water Management Office .

After Savaşcı was a lecturer at the Army Academy in 1961, he was transferred to the Supreme Headquarters of the Allied Forces in Europe SHAPE ( Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe ) in Paris in 1962 . After his return, he was promoted to Brigadier General (Tuğgeneral) on August 30, 1962 and appointed commander of the 58th Division in Isparta , before he became Chief of Staff of the 2nd Army in Konya in 1963 . In 1965 he was promoted to major general (Tümgeneral) and initially took over the post of commander of the 66th Division belonging to the 1st Army in the Istanbul district of Eyup and then in 1966 as Chief of Staff of the 1st Army stationed in Istanbul's Selimiye barracks .

In 1968 Savaşcıs was promoted to lieutenant general . As such, he was first commanding general of the VIII. Corps (VIII. Kolordu) stationed in Malatya and then on August 30, 1969 Chief of Army Staff (Kara Kuvvetleri Kurmay Başkanlığı) . He remained in this post for three years until he retired on August 30, 1972.

As a candidate of the Justice Party AP ( Adalet Partisi ) Savaşcı was elected in the election of October 14, 1973 member of the Grand National Assembly and represented the interests of Samsun in this until the election of June 5, 1977 .

Savaşcı, the father of two children, was buried after his death in Feriköy, a district of the Şişli district of Istanbul .
