Gasthaus Schönmühl
The Gasthaus Schönmühl is a former inn in the Penzberg district of Schönmühl . The address is Schönmühl 1 .
The two-storey plastered eaves side building with a flat saddle roof is marked with the year “1737”, but its core dates back to the 15th century. The inn and the living area of the former Einfirsthof are under monument protection .
The tavern in Schönmühl was originally run by the local miller. The mill and tavern were part of the Benediktbeuern monastery very early on . The stone building that still exists today bears witness to the miller's wealth, as it dates from a time when most of the farms in the area were built from wood.
With the advent of rafting on the Loisach , the inn flourished. In the 1990s, Schönmühl became a destination for the Munich crowd . At the end of 2019 the restaurant, which the politician Anton Prandl leased between 1937 and 1946 , was closed.
The building also served as a film set, including for Hölleisengretl (1994) and Josef Bierbichler's Two Men in a Suit (2018).
