The Gasthaus Zum schwarzen Adler is an inn in Karbach (Lower Franconia) from the 17th century. In the list of monuments, however, it is not the building at Hauptstrasse 54, but the tavern sign with the double-headed eagle from the early 19th century that is registered as a monument.

history

Since 1691 the right to be served by the baker Andreas Liebler has been registered. The model could have been the Black Eagle in Würzburg . Until around 1627, when the large vicarage barn was built, according to old land registers, the tithe barn should have stood here at the location of houses number 77 and 78. At that time the eagle had the number 79. The Hofriet has plan number 106 and is 236 decimals or 8.04  ares in size.

The spacious courtyard, surrounded by buildings, served as a parade ground for the Russians in the winter of 1812 to 1813.

On February 26, 1868, the barn of this Hofriet burned down at night, seized the barns of houses No. 78, 77, 76, 75, 74 and 73 and destroyed them completely. On October 30, 1896, another fire broke out in the village, which completely damaged the stables and partially damaged the house. Instead of the dance hall, which had become too small, an extension was built on the west gable of the house above the courtyard entrance, in which French prisoners were housed in 1914/17. A slaughterhouse was built in the courtyard and various structural changes were made in the house around 1920. In 1932 the inn was built in its current form. A number of stones bearing the year were walled in again.

The story was researched by Peter Apfelbacher, who as a local teacher and local historian a. a. worked for various local newspapers.
