The Gasthof Sonne is located in the municipality of Windisch in the canton of Aargau . It is a cultural object of communal importance .

Building history and description

In 1822 Johannes Meier had a house and barn built on what was then the new Landstrasse to Zurich , which would later become the "Sun". He ran a home-grown business there. In 1834 Meier received permission to run a tavern under the flagship "Zur Sonne" . Business was bad rather than good. In 1852 Isaak Schatzmann, the son of the leaseholder from the “Lindhof” in Windisch, bought the inn and brought it to a great boom together with agriculture and a trucking company. Descendants of the Schatzmann family still run the inn today. The initials "FS" above the door to the restaurant stand for Fricker-Schatzmann, Fricker-Schaffner and Fricker-Stucki.

architecture

Erected in 1822 as a spacious multi-purpose building, the late baroque building has a stately character. It is structured under a continuously bent Gerschilddach in a brick two-storey living area and a eaves bretterverschalten economy section with Tenn , Futtertenn and stable. The main front facing north on Zürcherstrasse has six axes of regularly arranged rectangular windows with shop rebates and strongly profiled window sills. Some of the original board shutters have been preserved. The gable wall of the west facade is probably preferred as weather protection over the facade. A flight of stairs next to the Tenn leads to the front entrance. This is adorned by a late Classicist door panel with a profiled cornice crowning . The parapet of the window above is made up of sculpted volutes . The gate wings of the Futtertenn with diamond-shaped doublings and the Biedermeier- style pub sign are striking .
