Gaston Flosse (born June 24, 1931 in Rikitea , Mangareva ) is a co-founder of the Tahoera'a Huiraatira party and was President of French Polynesia for five different periods until 2014 .

From 1982 onwards, Flosse, a friend of the French President Jacques Chirac , ruled in French Polynesia , interrupted only from 1987 to 1991. He was also a member of the European Parliament from 1984 to 1986 . In May 2005, Flos loyal to France was replaced as president by the independentist Oscar Temaru . In 2004 and 2005 the political situation in the country changed very much. In February 2004 a new statute of autonomy for French Polynesia was passed in the French capital Paris . In 2006, Flosse was convicted of corruption. In 2008, Flosse was again President of French Polynesia for a short time after the elections and was then replaced by Gaston Tong Sang after a vote of no confidence . The parliament that met after the 2013 elections re-elected Gaston Flosse as President of French Polynesia on May 16, 2013, chaired by the President of Parliament Édouard Fritch , who took office on May 17, 2013. Nuihau Laurey became vice president .
