Gas supply to Saxony East

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The gas supply Sachsen Ost GmbH (GASO) was responsible in the years 1991 to 2005 for gas supply in eastern Saxony. It included the area from Nossen in the west to Görlitz in the east in the Free State of Saxony. It emerged from the VEB Energiekombinat Dresden by splitting off the gas division as a result of the provisions of the electricity contract of August 22, 1990 and the splitting up of the Energiekombinate .

history

Gasversorgung Sachsen Ost GmbH (GASO) was founded on May 16, 1991 with retroactive effect to July 1, 1990. The founding shareholders were:

  • Special purpose association gas supply Ostsachen with 49%
  • rhenag Rheinische Energie AG with 39%
  • GESO investment and consulting stock corporation with 12%

The shares in rhenag AG were sold to ThüBet Ostsachsen GmbH, Cologne, in 2001. The reason was the real division of rhenag AG between Thüga AG and RWE AG .

In 2004, 100% of all shares were transferred or sold to ENSO Energie Sachsen Ost GmbH, Dresden.

Sales: 1995: 240 million DM, 2005: 280 million €

Executive Director:

  • Peter Weckenbrock (until 1996)
  • Herbert Marquard
  • Klaus-Dieter Wegener † (until 1992)

Data

The network area comprised the area of the former GDR district of Dresden . Exceptions were the urban areas of Dresden ( Dresden Gas network area , now DREWAG GmbH ), Radebeul, Coswig, Meißen, Riesa, Bautzen, Görlitz, Zittau, Pirna and Freital. These municipalities had founded their own municipal utilities with a gas division. After GASO was founded, concession agreements with a term of 20 years were successively concluded with the municipalities in the network area. The gas pipeline network of GASO had an extension of approx. 5,000 km with approx. 78,000 house connections and over 225,000 customers supplied.

Conversion to natural gas

As a result of the economic upheavals after 1990, the town gas supply that had prevailed up to then in the supply area had also become unprofitable. On March 30, 1992, therefore, a start was made to displace the town gas obtained from domestic brown coal from the Schwarze Pump gas combine and to convert the gas network to natural gas . The natural gas conversion of a gas network goes hand in hand with the conversion of all connected consumer devices (heating, stoves, water heaters). For this purpose, obsolete devices that cannot be converted must be completely replaced, or in newer devices, the nozzles for the supply of combustion air must be changed. The conversion to natural gas required a high level of logistical and financial expenditure and was completed in the GASO network area on August 29, 1994.

Economic development

From 1992 to 2003 an expansive market strategy followed in order to satisfy the demand for natural gas in the East Saxon region and to compete against the supply of heating oil. During this time, the gas network was expanded by approx. 1,500 km and approx. 38,000 new house connections were laid. The high demand of this time was based on the desire of many house owners in rural areas to replace the old coal heating from GDR times with a modern and environmentally friendly natural gas heating. As a result of the establishment of municipal utilities (Riesa, Pirna, Meißen, Radebeul-Coswig, Bautzen, Görlitz, Zittau and Freital) and the trend to replace gas stoves with electric stoves, the number of customers fell to around 100,000 . However, gas sales increased to over 8 billion kWh per year thanks to the sharply increasing share of gas heating systems and the aforementioned expansion strategy. In 2005, the gas network comprised approx. 1,000 km of high-pressure gas lines, approx. 2,500 km of local distribution lines for medium-pressure and low-pressure pressure levels, and approx. 1,500 km of house connection lines.

Termination of activities

With the takeover of Ruhrgas AG by E.ON , ThüBet Ostsachsen GmbH, Cologne, as an E.ON subsidiary, had to sell its shares in GASO to GESO AG, a subsidiary of EnBW AG , in order not to result in a competition suit by EnBW AG against the takeover of Ruhrgas AG by E.ON to endanger the takeover.

In 2005 the shares of ThüBet Ostsachsen GmbH were sold to GESO AG, business was transferred to ENSO Erdgas GmbH and Gasversorgung Sachsen Ost GmbH was deleted from the commercial register.
