Gateshead Island ( Inuktitut : Umingmalik ) is an uninhabited island in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago in the Kitikmeot region of the Canadian territory of Nunavut .

The island is located in the McClintock Channel , about 50 km east of Victoria Island . The Larsen Sound begins south of the island . Their area is 220 km².

It is an important polar bear area .
