Gauguin (original title: Gauguin - Voyage de Tahiti ) is a French biographical feature film by Édouard Deluc about the painter Paul Gauguin . Gauguin is played by Vincent Cassel .

action

In 1891 Paul Gauguin withdrew into his self-chosen exile. Here in French Polynesia, after his divorce from his wife Mette, he finds the young native Tehura know and love. She becomes the model for his most famous paintings. Far from any civilization, he developed a new style of painting. But even here the self-chosen paradise begins to crumble. Tehura cheats on Gauguin with the young Jotépha, who becomes more and more unhappy between belief in ghosts and going to church. So his paradise becomes like his home Paris. Gauguin works at the port and thus earns his poor life. Marked by illness and poverty, he has to realize that this paradise is not what he thought and that it is more and more like the Paris from home.

The addendum says: Unemployed and impoverished, he dies in 1903.

background

The film is loosely based on Gauguin's book Noa Noa, which describes part of his life.
