Paul Gavarni
Paul Gavarni (Hippolyte Sulpice Guillaume Chevalier ) (born January 13, 1804 in Paris , † November 23, 1866 in Auteuil ) was a French draftsman , graphic artist and caricaturist .
Life
Gavarni started out as a fashion illustrator. From 1828 he created witty and ironic depictions of Parisian society and, during a stay in London from 1848 to 1851, moralistic depictions of the poor neighborhoods there. Gavarni was one of the masters of 19th century lithography . His book illustrations and watercolors are also important.
In the period 1837-1848 he worked for the satire - magazine Le Charivari .
