Gavin Maxwell
Gavin Maxwell (born July 15, 1914 near Mochrum , Wigtown , Scotland ; † September 7, 1969 in Inverness , Inverness-shire , Scotland) was a Scottish writer, trainer for the British Special Operations Executive and a passionate amateur naturalist and conservationist , who was especially known for his work with otters . The subspecies of the Indian otter Lutrogale perspicillata maxwelli , which lives in the Iraqi swamps and is now invalid, was named after him. In 1960 his work Ring of Bright Water appeared , a worldwide bestseller, which was filmed in 1969 with Bill Travers and Virginia McKenna in the leading roles .
