Gavin A. Schmidt is an American climatologist . Since June 2014 he has headed the Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) at NASA . From Thomson Reuters , he is in the list of most cited scientists in the category Geosciences out.

His focus is on developing climate models , researching the interactions between ocean currents and climate, and the climate's response to changing drivers such as increasing greenhouse gases or aerosols .

Schmidt received a BA (Hons) in mathematics at Jesus College of the University of Oxford and a PhD in applied mathematics at the University College London .

In addition to numerous publications on climate research, Schmidt regularly writes on the RealClimate blog . In 2011, he was awarded the American Geophysical Union (AGU) to the newly created in the same year and 25,000 dollars doped Climate Communication Prize . In 2018 he was made a Fellow of the AGU.
