reception

In 2005 Scientific American named the website one of the 25 most popular websites of the editorial team in its list of Science & Technology Web Awards .

Political scientist Roger Pielke, Jr. said in January 2005, two months after the blog started, that the bloggers had gone into the wrong territory because the global warming controversy was actually about a political battle, not about it Climatology in the strict sense.

RealClimate came third on a list of the 50 most popular science blogs compiled by Nature in 2006.

Also the TIME Magazine counted Real Climate beginning of 2008 to the 15 best environmental websites on the Internet.

In connection with the hacker incident at the University of East Anglia's climate research center, RealClimate's approach was criticized by Hans von Storch , among others . He called the blog "the mouthpiece of the cartel that represents the hockey stick diagram , a modern central body". Critical contributions are undesirable there.

In 2011 the American Geophysical Association ( AGU) awarded the Climate Communication Prize, newly created in the same year and endowed with 25,000 dollars, to the co-founder of Realclimate.org, Gavin Schmidt.
