Queen's Gavotte

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Queen's Gavotte is a composition by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 391). It was performed for the first time on December 12, 1880 in the concert hall of the Wiener Musikverein under the direction of Eduard Strauss .

Remarks

The gavotte was put together based on motifs from the operetta The Queen's Lace. It thus joins a series of compositions (opus numbers 392 , 393 , 394 and 406 ) that take up all the themes from this operetta. This series also includes the waltz Roses from the South (op. 388). The main theme of this gavotte is part of a song number in the 2nd act of the operetta (scene and couplet: what is it about ... it's Cervantes) . However, the work could not last long. It soon disappeared in the archives and was only taken out again for the CD recording mentioned below.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 5 minutes and 28 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
