Gean House

Gean House is a villa in the Scottish town of Alloa in the Council Area of Clackmannanshire . It was a wedding gift from textile industrialist Alexander Forrester-Paton (see also Kilncraigs Mills ) to his son. In 1972 the building was included in the Scottish List of Monuments and in 1989 it was finally upgraded to the highest category A. Today Gean House can be rented for receptions or festivities and in this context also offers ten hotel rooms.

description

The building is located off Tullibody Road in the northwest of the city and not far from the also listed Inglewood House . William Kerr was entrusted with the planning as the architect . His design was inspired by Edwin Lutyen's architecture. The villa was completed in 1912. A large, two-story, asymmetrical building was created, the masonry of which is made of cut rubble . The crowned entrance area, located at a courtyard on the northeast side, is supported by Doric columnsflanked. A striking, disproportionately high chimney rises on the right side of the wide gable surface. The disproportionality also recurs in all other chimneys, so that they significantly shape the overall picture. The south-east wing grows in stages to the height of the main building. The roofs are covered with red tiles.
