Gebberskreuz

The Gebberskreuz is a listed memorial cross in the area of the city of Möckern in Saxony-Anhalt .

location

It is located in the forest northeast of Möckern, east of a forest path leading from the striking Stern intersection in the northeast to the village of Lochow in the southwest .

Design and history

The cross is at the point where on May 10, 1850 the hunter Herrman Gebbers, who was in the Prussian service, was murdered by a poacher . In the second half of the 20th century, the cross was largely ignored and neglected. At the beginning of the 21st century, the inscription on the cross was restored on the initiative of the Möckern Heimatverein. A resting place for hikers has been set up near the cross.

The simple cross is made of granite . It bears the inscription:

On May 10,
1850
,
the hunter Herrman Gebbers
found his death here in the faithful fulfillment of his duties
by the hand of a murderer.

In the register of monuments of the city of Möckern , the cross is registered as an architectural monument under registration number 094 71292. The list of monuments gives poetically as an address deep in the dark forest ground and as a location near Lüttgenziatz in an enchanted place .
