The Unterlesach Memorial Chapel is a Roman Catholic chapel in the Lesach district of the municipality of Kals am Großglockner . The chapel is consecrated to Saints Kilian and Johannes Nepomuk and was built in 1974 according to plans by architect Paul Illmer in the center of Unterlesach. The chapel is one of the 13 listed buildings in Kals am Großglockner ( list entry ).

history

The chapel was built as an engagement chapel after the heavy floods in 1965 and 1966 and built in 1974 according to plans by the architect Paul Illmer. In 1996 the interior was redesigned.

Building

The chapel was built from concrete and hollow block masonry over a rectangular floor plan that tapered towards the obtuse-angled choir, with the small vestibule on the entrance facade made of natural rubble. The chapel is protected by a steep gable roof, which was covered with Eternit shingles and hipped over the choir. The vestibule, however, has a flat monopitch roof. The gable facade on the entrance side was equipped with a tower-like bell beam, which protruded over the facade and was covered with a transverse gable roof. The nave walls are pierced by three narrow rectangular windows each.

The modern interior, which was redesigned in 1996 according to plans by Illmer, is characterized by the exposed purlin roof structure . The chancel has been raised by one step and provides access to the sacristy through two doors. The wooden table altar dates back to 1996 , as does the ambo and the priest's or altar server's seats. The altar crucifix with a less than life-size depiction of Jesus Christ from the second half of the 18th century. The cross is flanked by the figures of St. Anne and St. Joachim from the second half of the 18th century and figures of St. John and St. Kilian from the second half of the 20th century. The figures of Anna and Joachim came from the parish church of Kals to Unterlesach. In addition, there is a protective cloak Madonna created in 1977 by the Kals sculptor Hans Unterweger in the chapel.
