Julia Janssen (born December 19, 1900 in Dortmund , † December 24, 1982 in Herdecke , North Rhine-Westphalia ) was a German - Austrian actress .

Life

Julia Janssen was born as the daughter of music director Julius Janssen and his wife Friederike. After graduating from high school , she received an acting training from Emil Binder in Dortmund. This was followed by a traineeship at the Oberhausen and Dortmund city ​​theaters . She made her stage debut in Oberhausen in 1924.

After an audition with Franz Herterich (1877–1966), director of the Vienna Burgtheater , arranged in Berlin , Janssen, up to then the first sentimental lover on the city theaters in Dortmund , began her engagement in the ensemble of the Vienna Burgtheater on September 1, 1927 . She made her debut as Juliet on November 20, 1927 in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet (directed by John Brahm ). In 1935 the Burgtheater was hard to imagine without her .

After the war, the Burgtheater reopened on April 30, 1945 in the Ronacher building with Grillparzer's tragedy Sappho , in which Janssen played the servant Melitta . In 1949 she participated in the Palais Coburg at the poetry reading Mahner des Friedens, organized by Rudolf Felmayer and Kurt Dichtl and accompanied by anti-war images .

The artist was a member of the Burgtheater ensemble for decades. Numerous guest performances have also taken her to various stages in Munich , Prague , Brno and Salzburg . She also worked as an acting teacher and taught Waltraut Haas , among others .

Julia Janssen worked in several film and television productions . In 1928 she starred in the silent film Die Frau von Yesterday und Morgen by Heinz Paul with Arlette Marchal , Vivian Gibson and Fritz Alberti and in 1935 in the feature film Himmel auf Erden by EW Emo with Heinz Rühmann , Hans Moser , Hermann Thimig and Lizzi Holzschuh . At the side of Helene Thimig she was seen on television in 1967 in the recording of a performance by the Theater in der Josefstadt with the play Katzenzungen by the Spanish writer Miguel Mihura (German version: Hans Weigel ).
