Memorial for the Fatherland Liberation Struggle
The Memorial to the Patriotic Liberation Struggle is a monument in the North Korean capital Pyongyang in the Pot'onggang-guyŏk district . It is located there on the banks of the Pothong , northwest of Ponghwa Street in the Sojang-dong district.
The memorial commemorates the Korean War and was built in 1993, 40 years after its end.

The entrance area of the 150,000 square meter area is represented by a monumental 14 meter high gate with various bronze reliefs that deal with the theme of "victory" in various variations. Behind the gate there is a bronze sculpture in the form of a guard on either side. These stand in front of a red granite flag . The flag on the left bears the Labor Party emblem and the flag on the right bears the coat of arms of North Korea .
There are five themed sculptures on both outer sides of the central square; Individual depictions of several warriors in heroic poses and chiseled lettering by Kim Il-sung .
The main sculpture of the memorial, the so-called “monument of the victor”, is centered at the head of the square and shows a bronze soldier on a granite plinth, who utters a call to fight. He is carrying a gun and holding up the flag of North Korea . The sculpture is 27 meters high.
In the immediate vicinity of the monument is the Museum of the Patriotic War of Liberation .

The memorial is shown on the back of the 10 won note and is one of the motifs of the Arirang Festival .
