The Pothong is a right tributary of the Taedong .
It runs through the North Korean capital Pyongyang and forms the border between several city districts. The district of Pot'onggang-guy Stadtk and the historic Pothong Gate were named after him.
The river was canalized in 1946 after multiple floods. The first groundbreaking was carried out by the then North Korean ruler Kim Il-sung . Sludge from the river is processed by the factory for organic combination fertilizers.
Islands
In the river is the island of Kyeran-do (German: "Chicken Egg"), which takes its name from its oval-ovoid shape. It is part of the Pothong amusement and recreation park. Others are the islands of Unha and the two adjacent Tonggak and Sogak.
