The memorial stone for the first May rally is a small memorial in the city of Halle (Saale) in Saxony-Anhalt . It is under monument protection and is entered in the monument register with registration number 094 04590.

Location and history

The memorial stone is located in the middle of the Dölauer Heide in the Bischofswiese area . In 1890, more than 600 workers met here outside Halle on the Bischofswiese and celebrated May 1st together here , as was the case on this day worldwide in memory of the Haymarket Riot and its victims. Later, too, there were repeated meetings of the workers here, for example at an anti-war demonstration in 1917. It does not seem to have been determined when the memorial was erected.

Figure and inscription

A weathered stone carries a slab of porphyry that reads in broken font:

on the Bischofswiese
