Gediminas Gelgotas

Gediminas Gelgotas (born June 12, 1986 in Vilnius ) is a Lithuanian composer and conductor .

Life

Gelgotas comes from a family of musicians. His mother leads three choirs at Vilnius University , his father is part of the LNSO and teaches at the Lithuanian Music and Theater Academy . His sister and brother are also musicians.

In 1993 Gelgotas began his musical training at the MK Čiurlionis Art School with a major in piano. He also learned trumpet and composition in a class from Nailia Galiamova. In 2004 he attended master classes with trumpeter Leif Bengson and pianist Prof. Mūza Rubackytė . From 2005 to 2011 he completed his studies at the Music and Theater Academy of Lithuania with Gintaras Rinkevičius .

Even while still at school, Gelgotas successfully took part in various competitions, festivals and other musical projects.

In 2003 he played as a soloist in the National Philharmonic of Lithuania , and in 2004 he made his debut as a composer and conductor of a choir at Vilnius University. At the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg he studied with the composer Peter Michael Hamel , as well as composition with Vytautas Barkauskas and conducting with Gintaras Rinkevičius at the LMTA .

Gelgotas is the founder and director of the “ New Ideas Chamber Orchestra ” (NI & Co), which implements his compositions and performative ideas. Gelgotas played with NICO in Riga, Saint Petersburg, Moscow, London, Essen, Duisburg, Kassel and other cities and won various prizes. In 2010 Gelgotas signed a contract with Peermusic Germany.
