Gediminas Vitkus

Gediminas Vitkus (born February 16, 1962 in Vidsodis , Kelmė district ) is a Lithuanian political scientist , publicist and professor at Vilnius University (VU).

Life

After graduating from high school in 1979 at the 3rd Telšiai Middle School , Vitkus completed his diploma studies from 1979 to 1984 and from 1986 to 1989 an aspirantur at the Philosophy Faculty of Lomonossow University in Moscow . From 1988 he worked as an assistant at the political science chair in the philosophy faculty at Vilnius University and from 1992 to 1995 he was deputy director of the Institute for International Relations and Political Science . In 1993 he received his doctorate in political science on the subject of "Tarptautinės politinės integracijos teorijų raida" at the VU. He has been teaching as a professor since 2007. From 2001 to 2013 he headed the Chair of Political Science at Generolo Jono Žemaičio Lietuvos karo akademija .

Vitkus is married. He and his wife Reda Griškaitė, a historian, have two daughters (Evelina Agota and Joana).
