Geert-Jan Derksen

Gerardus Johannes "Geert-Jan" Antonius Derksen (born May 2, 1975 in Didam ) is a former Dutch rower who won an Olympic silver medal in eighth place in 2004.

Athletic career

Derksen started rowing in 1996, rowing for the Roeivereniging van Studenten aan de Vrije Universiteit Okeanos . In 1998 he started eighth in the World Cup . In 1999 he finished fifth at the World Championships in St. Catharines with the Dutch eighth . The following year, the crew reached eighth place at the Olympic Games in Sydney .

At the 2001 World Championships Derksen finished tenth with the eighth place, two years later at the 2003 World Championships the eighth rowed to 13th place. In 2004, the eighth in the World Cup finished fourth in Poznan and third in Munich. At the Olympic Games in Athens , Diederik Simon , Gijs Vermeulen , Jan-Willem Gabriëls , Daniel Mensch , Geert-Jan Derksen, Gerritjan Eggenkamp , Matthijs Vellenga , Michiel Bartman and helmsman Chun Wei Cheung finished second behind the Eighth from the United States.
