Geertruidkerk (Ouwerkerk)
The Geertruidkerk ( German Gertrudenkirche ) is the Protestant parish church of Ouwerkerk (municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland ) in the Dutch province of Zeeland .
history
Today's new Geertruidkerk replaces a late Gothic predecessor building, which was destroyed in the Second World War and consecrated to Saint Gertrud von Nivelles and which had the characteristic features of the village Scheldt Gothic . The nave of this previous building was already lost in the course of the 17th century due to a fire, after which only the 15th century long choir was used as a place of worship. Later, a school building was added here like a transept. In 1944 the choir was badly damaged by fighting, in 1945 German troops blew up the late medieval church tower. From 1946, the congregation was able to celebrate services again in an emergency church from Switzerland . After the severe storm surge of 1953, it was decided to build a new church after the devastating destruction in Ouwerkerk. The church service room, a central building, was consecrated in 1956, and the free-standing bell tower was completed in 1957. The parish belongs to the Protestant Church in the Netherlands, which was created in 2004 .
organ
The organ was built by the organ building company Van Vulpen. The slider chests -instrument has 13 registers on two manuals and pedal . The playing and stop actions are mechanical.
