Lapušnik prison camp

The llapushnik prison camp or Llapushnik was a prison camp , which by the KLA near the town of Glogovac , in Kosovo during, the war in Kosovo was operated.
It started operating in the spring of 1998 and inmates have been the subject of intimidation, detention, violence, murder and rape. The victims were mostly Serbs , but also Albanians .

history

In the spring of 1998 the KLA under the command of Fatmir Limaj and Isak Musliu illegally detained Serbian and Albanian civilians from the communities of Štimlje , Drenas and Lipjan for long periods in the camp. On July 25 or 26, the UÇK abandoned the camp when the Serbian forces began their advance on Lapušnik.

Indictments

In 2003, the mandated UN war crimes tribunal (ICTY) against Fatmir Limaj, Isak Musliu and Haradin Bala proceedings for war crimes and crimes against humanity . In November 2005, all of the accused except Haradin Bala were acquitted for lack of evidence. Bala, who was a security guard in the camp, was found guilty of and became one of the charges of persecution for political, racial and religious reasons, cruel treatment, murder, rape, and his role in maintaining and enforcing the inhumane conditions in the camp Sentenced to 13 years imprisonment.
Although the exact number of inmates is unknown, it is known that at least 23 inmates were killed (9 of them were murdered in the mountains of Haradin Bala and two other guards).
