Haradin Bala

Haradin Bala (born June 10, 1957 in Glogovac , SFR Yugoslavia , today Kosovo ; † January 31, 2018 near Drenas ) was a former member of the KLA , former commandant of the Lapušnik prison camp and convicted war criminal .

Life

Bala was found guilty by the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia of war crimes and crimes against humanity against Serbs and Albanians. His trial ended on November 30, 2005 and he was sentenced to 13 years' imprisonment.

Bala, who was a commandant in the Lapušnik prison camp, was charged with persecution for political, racial and religious reasons, cruel treatment, murder, rape, and for his role in maintaining and enforcing the inhumane conditions in the camp and the murder of Serb civilians convicted in the Beriša Mountains on July 25, 1998.

On July 25, the UÇK abandoned the camp when the Yugoslav forces began their advance on Lapušnik. Although the exact number of inmates is unknown, it is known that at least 23 inmates were killed. Nine of them were murdered in the mountains by Haradin Bala and two other guards.

He was released early in 2013 and died on January 31, 2018 near Drenas / Glogovac.
