The Gefion Fountain ( Danish Gefionspringvandet ) is a large fountain on the harbor in Copenhagen . It is the largest monument in Copenhagen and is used as a wishing well.

The group of figures shows Gefion , the Aesir maiden from Germanic mythology and her sons transformed into bulls, who plow a furrow between the island of Zealand and Sweden with a plow and thus separate Zealand from the mainland. The fountain is on Nordre Toldbod , near Copenhagen Castle and the Langelinie .

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Carlsberg Brewery , the Carlsberg Foundation donated a large amount of money to the city of Copenhagen in 1897 for the construction of the fountain, with which the Danish sculptor Anders Bundgaard (1864-1937) was commissioned. The fountain was inaugurated on July 14, 1908.

In August 1999, the daily water outlet of the fountain was set to 15–50 on behalf of the municipality of Copenhagen  . From April 2003 to August 2004 the well was extensively renovated and an existing leak in the well system was repaired. The fountain was also equipped with an SMS service for error messages. On September 7, 2004, the fountain was ceremoniously put back into operation by the Danish politician and then mayor of Copenhagen, Søren Pind .

Well in the movie

The fountain has already served as a film set. So here in the film Die Olsenbande and their big coup Benny and Kjeld hid from the "stupid pig" (his 1st supporting role in an Olsenbande film) after they had tried to break into a safe in his shop.
