The Gefle Red Devils are a Swedish American football team from Gävle . Founded in 1985 as Gefle Black Mooses, the team was renamed Red Devils in 1991.

history

After the founding, the Black Mooses played their first friendly against the Danderyd Mean Machines . In 1986 they went into the league game operations, but success only came after the name was changed to Red Devils. In 1993, the Red Devils rose as champions of Division I Östra in the super series and reached the play-offs in their first season in 1994. There they had to admit defeat to eventual champions Limhamn Griffins in the semifinals with 23:55. In the following year, the quarter-finals were over and again the future champions stood in the way: Against the Solna Chiefs , the Red Devils lost 13:26. A major setback followed in 1996: after four match days, the team had to be withdrawn from the league due to a lack of players. In 1997, the club started voluntarily in the third division in order to be able to carry out a fundamental rebuilding with young players. From 2000 to 2007, the Red Devils played again in the second division and from 2003 onwards also brought youth teams in different age groups to the start. After the U-19 juniors had already reached the Swedish championship final in 2004, but were defeated by the Carlstad Crusaders juniors with 0:28, they celebrated the greatest success in the club's history a year later. The U-19 juniors won the Swedish championship title in 2005 with a 42-0 final win over the Gothenburg Marvels . The men's team was relegated back to the third division in 2007 and came seventh there in 2008.
