Geira

The Geira , also Jeira, was a Portuguese measure of area and arable land and corresponded to the measure of morning .

The measure applied in Portugal and in the Brazilian Bahia and Rio de Janeiro . In different regions it was calculated according to the square Bracas with 4.84 square meters or one derived the size from the sowing. Minor deviations resulted from the different sizes of the vara .

  • 1 Geira = 1210 square Bracas = 4840 square Varas = 58.564 hectares = 58.258 ares
