The yellow-footed mite ( Hydrodroma despiciens ) is a striking representative of the freshwater mite (Hydrachnidiae).
The yellow-footed mite is strikingly red in color and has yellow legs. The body is almost circular and covered with backward-pointing uvula. The front eye of each pair of eyes is shifted to the underside. The palps are very short and form scissors.
The animals mostly live on the banks of standing water, even near large lakes. Their larvae parasitize on the larvae of tufted mosquitoes .
