building

The community center Alkenrath consisted of a bell tower as a campanile , the church with an attached community hall and the rectory. The bell tower is considered a landmark by Alkenrathern.

history

The first Protestant service in Alkenrath was celebrated on May 30, 1957 ( Ascension Day ) in the Ivanov restaurant. The foundation stone for the Alkenrath community center was laid on December 13, 1958, the 105th anniversary of the church in Schlebusch and the 5th anniversary of the Johanneskirche in Manfort . The architects of the community center, inaugurated in 1959, were Bruno Höft and Rudi Hormes. The last service was celebrated here on March 6, 2010. The community center has since stood empty and fell into disrepair. Services are currently taking place in the Hertha von Diergardt House. The request to place the bell tower as a "landmark of Alkenrath" under monument protection was not accepted by the monument authorities.

After the planned sale had already caused unrest in the community, the intended sale of the bells caused heated discussions again, so that this decision was postponed.
