Elmar Timpe

Elmar Timpe (born August 12, 1947 in Hildesheim ) is a German diplomat . From 2009 to 2012 he was Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Rwanda . He has been retired since mid-2012.

Life

After graduating from high school in 1969, Elmar Timpe studied law and economics from 1969 to 1974. In 1974 he passed the first state examination in law. From 1974 to 1978 he completed the legal preparatory service . In 1978 he passed the 2nd state examination in law. Elmar Timpe is married and has two children.

career

After passing the 2nd state examination in law, Elmar Timpe joined the diplomatic service of the Federal Republic of Germany. After attending the diplomatic school in Bonn - Ippendorf from 1979 to 1981, he worked at the headquarters of the Foreign Office in Bonn until 1984 . From 1984 to 1986 his first assignment abroad took him to the German embassy in Dhaka ( Bangladesh ). From 1986 to 1989 Timpe was permanent representative of the ambassador at the German embassy in Lusaka ( Zambia ). From 1989 to 1992 he worked at the Permanent Representation of the Federal Republic of Germany to the European Union in Brussels , before he again worked as deputy head of department at the Foreign Office in Bonn from 1992 to 1995.

From 1995 to 1998 Timpe worked at the German embassy in Oslo ( Norway ) before he was the German ambassador in Asmara ( Eritrea ) from 1998 to 2000 . From 2000 to 2003 Timpe worked at the German embassy in The Hague ( Netherlands ) and from 2003 to 2006 as permanent representative of the ambassador in Sofia ( Bulgaria ). From 2006 to 2009 Timpe was Head of Section in the Minutes of the Federal Foreign Office. From August 2009 until his retirement at the end of June 2012, he was the German ambassador to Rwanda.
