The common cave mosquito ( Limonia nubeculosa ) is a mosquito from the family of wilts (Limoniidae). It was created by the Association of German Cave and Karst Researchers . V. named " Cave Animal 2019 ".

features

The mosquito reaches a body length of 9 to 11 millimeters. Their wings have a dark mark on the leading edge. The antennae are colored brown, the third link is yellowish. The mesonotum has three dark longitudinal lines. The thighs ( femora ) are yellowish in color and have three dark rings.

Way of life and distribution

The animals are found all over Europe and colonize forests and underground habitats such as caves and tunnels. They are common in Central Europe. They fly from April to November and are often found in their thousands in caves during this time, where they are typical summerers.
