The common suspension ball ( Woronichinia naegeliana ) ( Syn .: Gomphosphaeria naegeliana ) is a type of cyanobacteria , or "blue-green algae". The species is a type species of its genus. The species lives in plankton in lakes and ponds.

features

The blue-green, slightly elongated, ellipsoidal cells lie together in a gelatinous ball and are connected by stalks that are difficult to see. The size of the single cell is approx. 5 µm, the size of the often irregularly shaped colony approx. 50 µm, however, is very variable. The formation of gas vacuoles is possible.
