management

The responsibility for appointing a head of the delegation ( delegate ) lies with the German-speaking Community. The delegate, like the head of the Representation of the German-speaking Community of Belgium in Brussels, is subordinate to the External Relations and Regional Development Department of the Ministry of the German-speaking Community . Stephan Förster was head of the delegation from 2008 to 2015. He also led the external relations and regional development department in the ministry in Eupen. On January 1, 2015, Förster took over the management of the DG's department for people with disabilities . From January 2015 to March 2016 the former CGSB union secretary Olaf Bodem headed the delegation full-time. Bodem ended his work in Berlin at the beginning of March 2016. He was temporarily succeeded by Anna Quadflieg, Head of the External Relations and Regional Development Department in the Ministry of the German-speaking Community , who once again holds both positions in personal union.

tasks

In addition to the consular service, the Belgian Embassy in Germany has a military attaché , a liaison officer at the Federal Criminal Police Office and a representative of the Belgian Tourism Association. According to the Belgian federal model, the tasks of a cultural and economic attaché are carried out by representatives of the member states who each represent their region. In addition to the delegation of the DG, the French Community and the Walloon Region in Berlin, these are an economic and trade attaché for the Wallonia and Brussels-Capital regions , a general delegate for the Flemish Community and the Flemish Region and an economic and trade attaché for the Flanders region .

The task of the delegation is accordingly to represent the interests of the French-speaking and German-speaking Belgian member states in Germany and especially in Berlin in the political, economic, cultural and social spheres. In addition, the delegation provides information on current developments in the DG and Wallonia by organizing events and publishing the annually published information brochure Lettre from Berlin . It also organizes the Spring Festival of the German-speaking Community in Berlin, which traditionally takes place in one of the representations of the German federal states in Berlin.
