history
The square village of Hopfgarten was first mentioned in 1272 with the mention of a Sifridus de Hophegarten. Around 1551 the place was under the jurisdiction of the manor Wolftitz , around 1696 the place belonged to the manor Hopfgarten located in the village, which remained in the possession of the von Einsiedel family from approx. 1455 until the expropriation in the Soviet occupation zone in 1945 . Until 1856, Hopfgarten was part of the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office of Borna . From 1856 the place belonged to the Geithain court office and from 1875 to the Borna district administration . In 1887 the Leipzig – Geithain railway was put into operation, touching the town in the northeast.
As a result of the second district reform in the GDR , the community of Hopfgarten became part of Geithain district in the Leipzig district in 1952 , which was continued as the Saxon "Leipzig district" from 1990 and was added to the Leipziger Land district in 1994 and in the Leipzig district in 2008. Hopfgarten one of the five places that merged on January 1st, 1994 to form the municipality of Eulatal. This was incorporated into Frohburg on January 1st, 2009.
