Greifenhain is a district of the city of Frohburg in the district of Leipzig (Free State of Saxony ).

Greifenhain is located east of Frohburg on the Greifenhainer Bach and the Fischbach. The place belongs to the Kohrener Land . It is divided into the large and the small side.

history

Greifenhain was first mentioned in 1172 in a deed of foundation of the St. Maria am Berge monastery in Altenburg . In 1215 the place is listed as "Greiffenhayn" in a document from Margrave Dietrich von Meißen . Around 1375 Greifenhain belonged to the " castrum Altenburg ". From the middle of the 16th century until 1856, the place was in the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office Borna . The jurisdiction over the place was partly with the manors Frohburg and Wolftitz . From 1856 Greifenhain belonged to the Frohburg court office and from 1875 to the Borna district administration .

During the second district reform of the GDR in 1952, Greifenhain was assigned to the Geithain district in the Leipzig district , which was added to the Leipziger Land district in 1994 . Greifenhain was incorporated into Frohburg on April 1, 1995.

traffic

Bundesstraße 7 runs south of Greifenhain, and Bundesautobahn 72 to the east and north . The Neukieritzsch – Chemnitz railway line also runs north of the village .
