history

On January 4, 1910, a squad of 112 French soldiers who pursued plundering members of the Masalit as part of the colonization of the Wadai were ambushed in the nearby Wadi Kajja and were massacred (also: "Battle of Kirnding"). The men of the Sultan of Masalit Taj al-Din fell into the hands of 180 rifles and 20,000 rounds of ammunition.

Due to the ongoing conflict in Darfur, there are various refugee camps around the city, which are supplied by various aid organizations , mostly financed by the WFP .

Infrastructure

The streets in and around the city are not paved. The runway (international identifier: EGN) has a length of 1600 m.
