General auditor

The General Auditorium was the highest military court authority in the Prussian Army .

The general auditorium was organized with a service instruction dated October 20, 1800 , with a collegial constitution and certain powers. According to the Prussian Military Criminal Court Code of 1845, the General Auditorium had to supervise the management of the military courts and deal with complaints in military matters. In addition, the authority had to clarify the jurisdiction and competence of the military courts or the application and interpretation of military laws and, if necessary , bring them to a decision before the Prussian king .

There was only the option of appealing to the king against legal decisions by the general auditor . The general auditor was itself the appellate authority, as well as the assessing authority in legal cases. It formed the second instance in criminal matters of military officials and was the superior service authority of auditors and actuaries .

The authority had its seat in Berlin and consisted of the general auditor of the army as president and six councilors who carried the title of secret judicial council . The members of the general audit were judicial officials with the rights and duties of civil judges. The General Auditorium was replaced by the Reich Military Court when the Reich Military Criminal Court Code came into force on October 1, 1900 .

Similar institutions existed in the Royal Bavarian Army and in the Hessian Army , in the Austro-Hungarian Army the authority was called the Military Appeal Court .
