The neted pupa predator ( Calosoma reticulatum ) is a beetle from the family of ground beetles (Carabidae) and belongs to the genus of pupa predators ( Calosoma ).
features
The beetles are 20 to 26 millimeters long. They are predominantly black in color, but are colored green-metallic in some parts of the body, often with a reddish shimmer. It owes its name to the typical net structure of the wings .
Occurrence
The animals are found in Northern and Central Europe . In Germany , this species is threatened with extinction, most of the finds date from the 1950s, especially from the area around Berlin . It can now only be found north and west of the Lüneburg Heath and stable in northern Saxony-Anhalt. They live in sandy areas such as B. on dry heaths , fields and in sparse forests . They can be found either on the ground or on low vegetation.
Way of life
The beetles feed exclusively on the caterpillars of the butterflies .
