Genevra Stone

Genevra "Gevvie" Lea Stone (born July 11, 1985 in Boston ) is a former American rower . She won the Olympic silver medal in single in 2016 .

The 1.83 m tall Stone won the U23 World Championships in 2006 with the eighth and in 2007 the title with the quadruple . In 2010 she made her debut in Lucerne in the Rowing World Cup with a seventh place in the single. At the 2011 World Championships , she finished eleventh. The following year she reached seventh place at the Olympics in Eton .

After a year break due to study reasons, she returned in 2014 with a ninth place at the World Championships in Amsterdam . The following year, she finished fourth at the 2015 World Championships . In 2016 she finished second behind the Australian Kim Brennan at the World Cup in Lucerne . Brennan also won the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , and Genevra Stone won the silver medal just over a second behind.

Stone received her PhD from Tufts University in 2014 . She is the daughter of the 1976 Olympic rower Lisa Hansen .
