Geng Biao
Geng Biao ( Chinese 耿 飚 , Pinyin Gěng Biāo ; born August 26, 1909 in Liling , Chinese Empire ; † June 23, 2000 in Beijing , People's Republic of China ) was a Chinese diplomat and politician of the Communist Party of China .
Life
In 1928 he became a member of the Chinese Communist Party. As a soldier he fought in the Second Sino-Japanese War . In May 1950 he was appointed Ambassador of the People's Republic for Denmark , Sweden and Finland . In 1971 he returned to the People's Republic of China. In later years he was ambassador to Pakistan , Myanmar and Albania . On October 6, 1976, he was ordered to control television stations in Beijing during the coup against the Gang of Four . As the successor to Xu Xiangqian , Geng was Minister of Defense of the People's Republic of China from 1981 to 1982 . He was also Deputy Prime Minister of the People's Republic of China. Zhang Aiping succeeded him in office . In 1983 he became vice president of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress .
