Zhang Aiping
Zhang Aiping ( Chinese 张爱萍 , Pinyin Zhāng Àipíng , W.-G. Chang Ai-p'ing ; born January 9, 1908 in Sichuan , Chinese Empire ; † July 5, 2003 in Beijing , People's Republic of China ) was a Chinese general and politician of the Chinese Communist Party .
Life
In 1928, Zhang became a member of the Chinese Communist Party. He took part in the Long March . As a soldier, he fought in the Second Sino-Japanese War and the Korean War . On April 23, 1949, the Eastern China Military Zone Navy Governing Body was established in Baimamiao Township. Zhang Aiping filled the posts of commander-in-chief and commissioner. In 1955 he was promoted to general. He lost all of his military offices during the Cultural Revolution . He was later rehabilitated. From 1982 to 1988, Zhang was Geng Biao's Defense Minister of the People's Republic of China . He was succeeded by Qin Jiwei as Defense Minister in the Office .
