Gennady Taniel

Gennadi Taniel (born July 29, 1940 in Tallinn ; † February 23, 2015 ) was an Estonian composer.

life and work

Gennadi Taniel studied bassoon at the Tallinn Music School from 1956 to 1960 and composition at the Tallinn State Conservatory (now the Estonian Music and Theater Academy ) with Villem and Eugen Kapp from 1960 to 1966 . He then worked as a sound engineer and music teacher. Since 1971 he has lived as a freelance composer. From 1977 he was a member of the Estonian Composers Association ( Estonian Eesti Heliloojate Liit ).

Gennadi Taniel composed over 400 songs, some of which have become very popular in Estonia . In 1964 he wrote the youth opera Kivine pisar , 1977 the rock opera Valus valgus , 1979 the musical drama Haapsalu legend and 1984 the oratorio Inimene for choir and symphony orchestra. In addition, numerous other compositions are by him, including a piano and a violin concerto.
