Geoffrey Ballard

Dr. Geoffrey Edwin Hall Ballard , CM , OBC (born October 16, 1932 in Niagara Falls, Ontario ; † August 2, 2008 in North Vancouver ) was a Canadian geophysicist and businessman who is also considered one of the fathers of the polymer electrolyte fuel cell.

Ballard advocated turning away from the internal combustion engine early on and founded Ballard Research in 1979, which later became Ballard Power Systems , which is listed on the stock exchange . The magazine Time Magazine called Ballard in 1999 for his commitment away from the engine through to fuel a "hero for the planet".
