Geoffrey Dernis (born December 24, 1980 in Grande-Synthe ) is a French football player .

Career

In the club

Dernis comes from the youth department of the Lille OSC . He joined the first team at the age of 17 and made his professional debut with the then second division team in the 1999/00 season. At the end of the season he was able to celebrate promotion to Ligue 1 with Lille . Once there, however, he only made two appearances during the entire season and therefore left the club on loan to ES Wasquehal. In the second division Dernis was able to collect match practice in the following two years, then return to Lille in 2003 and play there permanently in the first team. In 2004 he won the UEFA Intertoto Cup with his team. In 2006 the midfielder then moved to AS Saint-Étienne on a free transfer . Dernis has been playing for the first division club HSC Montpellier since the 2009/10 season , where he reached the UEFA Europa League in his first season with a fifth place . There, however, the team failed in the third qualifying round at Győri ETO FC and almost rose in the league as fourth in the table. Subsequently, however, Dernis scored five goals in 20 games and was thus involved in the surprising win of the French championship . For the 2012/13 season, the striker signed a contract with league rivals Stade Brest .

In the national team

For the U-17 national team of France, Geoffrey Dernis played three games in 1996 and 1997.
