Geoffrey Lofthouse, Baron Lofthouse of Pontefract
Geoffrey Lofthouse, Baron Lofthouse of Pontefract (born December 18, 1925 in Featherstone , † November 1, 2012 ) was a British Labor Party politician .
Life
His parents were Emma and Ernest Lofthouse. At 14, he worked in the mining industry and at 29 was the chairman of the National Union of Mineworkers' local chapter . He studied Political Science at Leeds University and received his bachelor's degree in 1957. In 1967 he became mayor of Pontefract . In 1978 he was elected MP for the constituency of Pontefract and Castleford and remained so until 1997.
On June 11, 1997, he was promoted to Life Peer .
He had a daughter with his wife Sarah.
