from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Geoffrey Alan Ozin (born August 23, 1943 in London ) is a British-Canadian chemist in the field of nanochemistry . He is a professor at the University of Toronto .

Ozin studied chemistry at King's College London with a bachelor's degree in 1965 and received a PhD in inorganic chemistry from Oxford University (Oriel College) in 1967 . From 1967 to 1969 he was an ICI Fellow at the University of Southampton before moving to the University of Toronto in 1969. There he became a professor in 1977 and a university professor in 2001 (the highest rank for professors at the university). In the same year he received a Canada Research Chair in Material Chemistry.

He deals with the development of new materials in nanotechnology, especially materials with the ability to assemble themselves (Materials Self Assembly, MSA) from building blocks from the nanometer to the micrometer range. For example, he developed nanocomposites, photonic materials and zeolites , dealt with chemistry of metal clusters and metal vapors, and with biomimetic inorganic chemistry.

In 2015 he received the Centenary Prize of the Royal Society of Chemistry , in 2011 the Albert Einstein World Award of Science , in 2002 the EWR Steacie Award in Chemistry from the Canadian Chemical Society, in 2001 the Medal from the Chemical Institute of Canada and in 2002 the Award in Materials Chemistry from the Royal Society of Chemistry . In 2010 he received the highest science award in the province of Ontario, the Premier Discovery Prize for Natural Sciences and Engineering. He has been a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada since 1992 . He was a Sherman Fairchild Fellow at Caltech . In 2004 he received the first Brockhouse Canada Prize with Sajeev John .
