Lidköpings järnvägar

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lidköpings järnvägar was a Swedish consortium . This was set up for the joint management of railway companies in Skaraborg County , which were wholly or partly owned by the city of Lidköping .

historical development

The city of Lidköping bought the narrow-gauge Lidköping – Håkantorps Järnväg (HLJ) in 1902 from Lidköping – Skara – Stenstorps Järnväg . Lidköping thus became the operator of a railway line.

The consortium was founded in 1912 in order to jointly manage and operate the Kinnekulle – Lidköpings järnväg (KiLJ) in addition to this company . This consortium was called Lidköpings järnvägar , in which the city was considered the main interested party.

This joint administration introduced through trains that ran from Forshem via Lidköping and the Göteborg – Skara line of Västergötland – Göteborgs järnvägsaktiebolag (VGJ) and the branch line Håkantorp – Tumleberg to Tumleberg on the main line of the VGJ. Lidköpings järnvägar operated the traffic on the Södra Kinnekulle Järnvägsaktiebolag (SKJ) owned railway line Källby-Kinne-Kleva after it was opened in 1924.

On the Lidköping – Tun railway line, opened in 1908 by Lidköping – Kållands järnvägaktiebolag (LJ), it operated independently until 1925. Then the company went into liquidation and the Swedish state took over the route. On December 2, 1928, the state sold the railway to the city of Lidköping.

The city of Lidköping also acquired SKJ in the same year. Now traffic on all five railway lines was operated under the name Lidköpings järnvägar . According to historical sources, only Lidköping – Kållands järnvägaktiebolag (LJ) uses the abbreviation LJ , as it has been using it since it was founded. There are no sources as to whether KiLJ was majority owned by the city of Lidköping.

The consortium was dissolved in 1948 when the Swedish government bought up the individual railway companies as part of general railway nationalization and integrated them into Statens Järnvägar .
