Geordie was a British rock band that existed from 1972 to 1983. The future AC / DC singer Brian Johnson began his career with the band.

history

Geordie was founded in 1972 by guitarist Vic Malcolm. His bandmates were drummer Brian Gibson, bassist Tom Hill and singer Brian Johnson . First they were called "USA", then they named themselves after a colloquial expression for their northern English homeland, Northumberland .

In December 1972 their first single Don't do that came in at number 32 on the British charts, in March 1973 they landed their only top 10 hit in England (number 6) with All Because of You . The successor singles Can You Do It (13th place), Electric Lady (32nd place) and Black Cat Woman had less and less success, in Germany even more so than in their home country. However, they never made it into the top 20 there either. 1976 Johnson left the group. The album No Good Woman , released in 1978, contains the last recordings with Johnson and new recordings with Dave Ditchburn as singer.

In 1983 the last album No Sweat was released with the new singer Terry Schlesser . Since they did not make a breakthrough this time either, the band finally ended in 1983.

Geordie played rock music, similar to that of their better-known compatriots Slade and Mud .
